The Physical Therapy Staff offers a combined 30 years of experience in the following areas:

Sports Medicine
The staff at The Sports Medicine Institute of Oregon offer a diverse and rich background in athletics. In practice our staff has provided consultation or team services for several local high schools and colleges, the Oregon Professional Golfer's Association, Multnomah Athletic Club Swim and Gymnastics teams, Westside Gymnastics and Dance, Oregon Gymnastics Academy, the Kentucky Wildcats, San Diego Padres, and several local professional and world class amateaur athletes. As participants in collegiate athletics, local races, adult leagues, and the occasional weekend kayak trip we understand the drive to return to the sport. Whether you are world class or just want to be treated that way one of our therapist will have the background that fits your needs.

Spine Rehabilitation
Our staff has extensive experience in working with patients recovering from spinal surgery or just trying to find answers and relief from nagging pain.  Commonly we will use manual techniques or a progressive exercise program to facilitate proper motion and restore tolerance of activity.  We offer a unique ability to work as a team with our physiatrist and orthopedic spinal surgeon to ensure the appropriate path of treatment.

Postoperative Rehabilitation
You and your physician understand that it is not all better once you have had surgery. When can I play golf? When can I throw again? Can I run yet?   When can I sleep brace-free? To get back to your regular life you need to understand the precautions, appropriate time lines and intensity of progression. Because we work so closely with the largest orthopedic surgery group in the state of Oregon our staff has extensive experience in the rehabilitation of athletic and spinal surgeries and is knowledgeable in the latest rehabilitation protocols. We have the experience and answers.

Biomechanical Evaluations
When treating our patients we try to focus less on the area of pain and more on identifying and correcting the problem that is causing the breakdown.  Often times we find it valuable to analyze the biomechanics of your particular sport or motion searching for irregularities. As consultants to many athletic organizations, participants in sports, or having an extensive professional background in treating a particular injury we are able to effectively review biomechanics. Limitations are often identified that are leading to a compensated motion and injury.
